Power speak in a nutshell: meeting held on 31 January 2009

Dear All,
This is an update on our last meeting, which was held on 31 January 2009.

The meeting started a bit late this Saturday. José Rodrigues, our President, voiced his concern regarding these late starts, given that they have become a constant lately. Let us ensure we are all at the club before or by 3.30pm at the latest!

José called the meeting to order and invited Robert Martim to the stage as the coach of the day. His coaching was about “Power Speak”.

The English conversation meeting proceeded with Robert reading the day’s text. Members were invited to ask questions about the text so that doubts could be clarified. The reading text contained a number of English idioms such as “suck and see”, “hang on one’s lips”, “shape up or ship out”, etc, which was a welcome surprise.

After discussing the difficult terms, members were invited to read a paragraph and make comments. Djalda Winter Santos was our member to read the text and comment:

David German followed suit, so he could recite Peter Piper:

Peter Piper picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers. Did Peter Piper pick a Peck of Pickled Peppers? If Peter Piper picked a peck of Pickled Peppers, where are the Peck of Pickled Peppers Peter Piper picked?

The reading carried on with Daisy being the next SPDC member to read and comment the text:
